Ways to Work, Inc. Receives $50,000 Grant from Woodforest National Bank
Wednesday, January 21, 2015
[Pittsburgh, PA] — Last week, Woodforest National Bank presented the national office of Ways to Work, Inc. with a $50,000 grant to strengthen their partnership and further the important work of improving the lives of credit-challenged families across the country. [Locally, Woodforest National Bank has supported Family Services of Western Pennsylvania’s Ways to Work efforts with a $5000 grant and has volunteered their staff to teach MoneySmart financial literacy classes to program applicants.]
This contribution brings Woodforest’s total investment in the Ways to Work network to $650,000. The collaboration, which began in 2013 and includes individual board and committee service by bank employees, benefits low-to-moderate income families in several U.S. cities where both Woodforest National Bank branches and Ways to Work programs operate.
Woodforest National Bank is a mission minded corporate partner that believes in lending, investing and volunteering. Overall, Woodforest National Bank has contributed more than $90 million dollars through community development lending and their employees have volunteered over 33,000 hours of financial literacy education.
“The financial assistance and leadership commitment provided by Woodforest National Bank is crucial to our ability to meet the demands of struggling working families in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties,” noted Stephen Christian-Michaels, President and CEO of Family Services. “I want to thank Woodforest for their continued support, which will help us build on our success and be a resource to the families who need us most.”
Nationally, the program has helped more than 34,500 families improve their transportation circumstances with nearly $78 million in loans. The program is delivered through a partnership with local, nonprofit, family-serving agencies across the country who are members of the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities. Together they provide low-interest loans, financial education, and support to working families committed to improving their credit status, moving up the workforce ladder and achieving a higher level of economic self-sufficiency. Clients use the loans primarily to purchase reliable, pre-owned cars to help retain jobs or move ahead in their careers, reduce tardiness and absenteeism at work, access additional education or job training and meet their families’ needs, such as access to child care, doctors’ appointments and school activities.
